Climate
The climate throughout Poland follows similar patterns, with slightly colder winters in the east and southern mountainous regions, and with marginally warmer winters and cooler summers on the Baltic coast.
Summer:
As well as higher temperatures during the summer months, this is also the most likely time for rain, so it's worth taking a waterproof even in the middle of the warmest period. Showers can be heavy. Average summer temperatures are in the mid twenties (Celsius), although like many central European countries it can often get considerably hotter.
Winter:
In winter, not unexpectedly, there is an average of 40 days of snowfall, increasing in the east and south to sixty days or more. Average winter temperatures are often no more than a few degrees below zero, although there can be prolonged periods of colder weather, especially when strong easterly winds from Russia prevail. Take plenty of warm and protective clothing if you're travelling during the colder months and layer up.
What to wear:
As with most of Western and Central Europe, the weather can be very changeable at any time of year, so come prepared with a selection of warm and waterproof clothing, as well as comfortable walking shoes and a waterproof rucksack for day-trips.
See www.bbc.co.uk/weather for further information on weather in Poland.
